There have been some internal discussions in the organization and at least one conversation with Hamilton's agent about agreeing on a long-term pact.
"What's meant to happen is going to happen," Hamilton said after acknowledging some conversation. "The more I read the Bible, the more I realize it doesn't make any sense to worry. I'm not going to be able to add one day to my life by worrying. I know God will provide for my family."
"I couldn't be happier with how Josh has performed and how he's fit into the community," General Manager Jon Daniels said from Texas.
Hunter Says Bonds Would Fit In Toronto
Angels outfielder Torii Hunter believes that free-agent slugger Barry Bonds would fit into the lineup of the Toronto Blue Jays, according to TSN in Canada.
Hunter expressed his opinion while appearing on TSN's "Off The Record" on Wednesday.
"I think Barry Bonds is a big pick up for a lot of teams," Hunter told host Michael Landsberg when asked about recent rumors suggesting the home run king might fit in Toronto. "If we needed a DH, I think Barry Bonds would be a great fit. I mean, he's one of the best hitters in the game. Why not have him?"
Hunter was then asked what kind of effect Bonds might have on the clubhouse in Toronto.
"I think he'd be a good fit. It's a different scene, a different clubhouse. That's Vernon Wells' clubhouse, you've got to respect that.. Trust me, he's a great guy, I know him pretty well. I think he's a pretty good guy in his own way. You've just got to get to know Barry," Torii added.
Uggla Not Concerned With Lack Of Deal
Marlins' second baseman Dan Uggla is not concerned with the fact that the team hasn't locked him up with a long-term extension, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The team signed shortstop Hanley Ramirez to a long-term deal last week even though president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest didn't recommend the signings.
"The whole Hanley [Ramirez] deal was kind of a shock to everybody," Uggla said. "We don't really think about it. We know how things go around here. If they do [offer more multiyears], great, if not, you move on. That's about all you can do."
Uggla is one of several Marlins that will become arbitration-eligible after this season.
"Before [the stadium] everybody knew it was a matter of time before they got rid of [expensive players] and traded for more talent," Uggla said. "Now that they have a stadium, there is that chance more than one guy could be here for a long time. I've heard through the grapevine they'd like to lock down a few players. Whether or not that happens, who knows?"
Pedroia Willing To Sign Extension In Boston
Dustin Pedroia confirmed on Saturday that he has been approached by the Red Sox organization about agreeing to a long-term deal with the team, according to The Boston Herald.
The second baseman claims that the team confronted him twice last winter about a deal, but the talks were put on hold as his switched agents.
"I understand what comes along with it," said Pedroia, who will be arbitration eligible following the 2009 season. "You probably give up a little to get a little."
"I?m one of those guys who would be all for it. I?m definitely interested," he added.
"I?m going to be who I am for a long time and I have the confidence in my ability," Pedroia said. "I want to be here for a long time. I?m a winning player and I think they know that."
Jacque Jones May Be A Marlin Soon
Former Tigers' outfielder Jacque Jones cleared waivers on Thursday morning and could become a member of the Marlins very soon, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Jones can play all three outfield positions and will be paid almost $5.5 million by the Tigers this season.
Minnesota's Hernandez Wants Another Eight Years
Twins' pitcher Livan Hernandez is off to a hot start (6-1) at 33-years-old and wants to play for another eight years, according to The Pioneer Press.
"I'm going to try for eight more years," he said.
"And if I get a chance to continue after that, I would like to, if I can still get people out," he said. "My family (in Miami) would kill me, though. Everybody there misses me."
Known as a workhorse, is seems plausible that Livan's elastic arm could actually last that long in the Majors.
